The Solution

Remove damaged material from otherwise serviceable wheels and replace this material with a specially engineered metal matrix composite.

Repair Steps

1. A lathe is used to remove the damaged material from the shell hub
   • Both the inboard and outboard hubs may be repaired
2. The hub is built back up to slightly over nominal dimensions
   • Build up is performed with Inovati’s Kinetic Metallization Equipment
   • The build up material is an Inovati’s Al-Trans® 70-52-85, a proprietary Engineered Metal Matrix Composite (EMMC)
3. Final machining is carried out on a lathe
4. Wheel bearings and seals are reinserted
5. Wheel returns to service.
6. Repair can be reapplied for future damage
