]]> Remove damaged material from otherwise serviceable wheels and replace this material with a specially engineered metal matrix composite.

Repair Steps

  1. A lathe is used to remove the damaged material from the shell hub
    • Both the inboard and outboard hubs may be repaired
  2. The hub is built back up to slightly over nominal dimensions
  3. Final machining is carried out on a lathe
  4. Wheel bearings and seals are reinserted
  5. Wheel returns to service.
  6. Repair can be reapplied for future damage

]]> After final machining the repaired wheels were sent to the Air Force Landing Gear Test Facility where they were fully assembled and then subjected to a battery of tests including static load and dynamic roll testing to evaluate the performance of the repair. The photos below show examples of similar testing performed during a previous repair qualification on the F-18 E/F main landing gear wheel.
